In Something Like an Autobiography, Akira Kurosawa mentions a haiku he read once that was so exquisite it convinced him he would never be a poet. He doesn’t mention the poet’s name, only that the poem appeared in “a book of Takahama Kyoshi’s poetry theories.” It is titled “A Waterfall”:
On the mountaintop
Water appears
